Salt Water

Why aren't we using more salt water? I estimate that a very large portion of the water we use is NOT drunk or otherwise used so as to require fresh water. From washing to cooling to flushing to cooking, salt water could be used effectively. As most of the world's population lives fairly close to the sea, the solution to our water shortage seems to lie in the utilisation of salt water for functions not requiring fresh water. Isn't it about time that we started to invest in a dual water delivery system - logic seems to dictate that we run a new, second system to deliver the small amount of required fresh water and use the existing system to deliver salt water for all other purposes. Although not cheap, running a second system is certainly cheaper than running out.

If New York City alone flushed with salt water, the fresh water saved could irrigate Chad! grin
